Audio for multimedia - Gauss and Grendel
This is my Audio for Multimedia artefact. Here is where i will be detailing the creation of this project. I wont have absolutely everything detailed as there is over 200 tracks inside of this project. i will be going over the things i am most proud of and how they came to be.
Why i chose this project
I chose this project for HNC as i wanted to do it in school for my higher music tech project. But i was told it was too hard and to pick something else. So this year studying HNC ive given myself the task of completeing this clip. This clip is from a game called Warframe and i have been actively interested in the game for 10 years. So im really experienced with how the tone and feel of the clip should be.
What i was tasked with
I was tasked to create a post production of a video clip that was atleast 3 minutes long without using any of the original audio. The audio could be created through foley or sound libraries
Planning
With the clip chosen i started to plan how i would make some of the sounds. I watched through the original clip about 5 times just to really pay attention to what was going on and try and notice all the subtle moments and nuances that make the audio come to life in the clip. After this i booted up SoundQ which is a hub for loads of free sound libraries and started to pick out sounds that i like and sounds that i could manipulate a certain way to fit into my project. I created a small padlet/mood board to collect put down some early ideas and inspiration.

Sounds Im Proud Of
Throughout this entire project ive made many sounds im really proud of and its hard to only pick a few. But i don't want to make this website extremely long going over the nitty gritty of how i did everything so here a few I'm proud of.
Grendel's Roar
This sound was made by laying different animal roars and my own whispering to create a weird ambient and scary roar there is also a low rumble just low enough to be heard this is to add the bass of the monster. i then resampled all of the sounds and added a massive sweep reverb to make it more ominous
.

Gauss' Running
The quick character - Gauss. He does alot of running in this clip its sort of his main thing. So it was important to me to create a unique sound of him running that matches the tone and feel of the scenes.
Here i used a compressor to catch the transients and make sure there no large difference in the volume of each step. making a nice clean footstep to then process further. I then put it through a shifter to make the pitch higher as he is running extremely fast on metal. There is then an eq removing the low end completely and taking a dip around 2k to remove harshness from the footsteps. and then finally into a phaser which adds that sci-fi touch and adds to the atmosphere

Gauss Charging
I initially had no idea how i was going to make a sound for this. But after tinkering with several different effects i landed on making the sound source with my voice. Literally just vocalising the sound of a jet charging. And then i shifted the 2 vocal takes by 6 semi tones up and down and then added the redux plugin. This was to essentially smash the audio and make it grainy which i really like. Then through a phaser to add the sci fi wobble and then through a chorus.

Difficulties
Some difficulties i came across during the length of this project was definitely time. I gave myself a massive project to do and i believe it turned out well and im really proud of it. But definitely toward the end i felt myself come under the pressure of it just a little bit. But im actively working on my time management skills and being realistic with my projects. Overall i had an amazing time making this project and cant wait to do more.
